Edward G. Pettit (Master of Ceremonies) is the Philly Poe Guy. He’s also a writer, part-time professor and full-time literary provocateur. In 2012, Pettit was the Charles Dickens Ambassador for the Free Library of Philadelphia’s Dickens Bicentenary celebration. ART COMES RIPPING: A HORROR / DANZIG-THEMED ART SHOW

In honor of both the season and the upcoming Samhain reunion show, PhilaMOCA’s October 2014 month-long art show will be horror-themed with hopefully a bunch of Danzig-related submissions!  “Horror” is a broad theme and we’re looking to put together a diverse show of macabre masterpieces!

The opening reception will be held on Saturday, October 4 from 6:00 – 10:00 PM and will feature a live performance by IN THE FIRE, a Misfits cover band fronted by local seven-year-old Rune Misfit.

About the Event:  PhilaMOCA is hosting the third installment of the critically-acclaimed ERASERHOOD FOREVER exhibit – an artistic celebration of the work of David Lynch.  It is being held in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art’s upcoming retrospective on the work of David Lynch.

The opening reception will be held on Friday, September 5 from 6:00 – 10:00 PM.  The exhibit will close on Saturday, September 27 with the ERASERHOOD FOREVER entertainment extravaganza featuring Lynch-themed musicians, comedians, burlesque, and surprises!

SCI-FI EXPLOSION
Thursday, June 19th, 8:00 PM
Join master of evil Skeletor, writer/comics historian Chris Cummins and some very special guests for an unforgettable evening of live performance, trivia and carefully curated video clips showcasing the weirder world of science fiction. From a look at Robocop’s secret past as a chicken salesman to an exploration of actual letters people have written to E.T. and beyond, the Sci-Fi Explosion will help kickstart this year’s Wizard World festivities into high gear.
Doors at 7:30 PM, event at 8:00 PM.
$10 admission, 18+.

CREATOR PRO AM: DRINK & DRAW
Friday, June 20th, 7:30 PM
Come join host Rob Prior for the Creator Pro Am: Drink & Draw. All artist and writers are invited to come and compete in this live drawing and writing competition.  You bring the creativity and we will take care of the rest.  Scenarios and scenes will be described to the artist and writers, where you will have 1 hour to compete.  Stay through to the end where one writer and one artist will be selected to win amazing prizes such as Corel PainterX3, Artograph lightpad and a Canson prize pack.  Additional prizes will be given throughout the night brought to you by Corel, Canson, Royal Talens and Artograph.

THE RETURN OF COMIC STRIP!

Burlesque beauties bare all in a Wizard World-themed extravaganza!  Comic books, video games, TV shows, these ladies will hit all of the essential nerd bases in this feature-length live strip show.  Featuring Liberty Rose, Hayley Jane, Minnie Tonka, Dottie Riot, and NYC cosplay star Stella Chuu!  Hosted by comedian Ben Fidler.
Doors at 9:00 PM, event at 10:00 PM.
$15 admission, 18+.

murica‘Murica!: A Patriotic Art Show

The Philadelphia Mausoleum of Contemporary Art (PhilaMOCA) is now accepting submissions for an upcoming exhibition titled ‘Murica! We are looking for art of all kinds, patriotic or not, celebratory or critical, as long as the subject is the US of A. Art in all 2D mediums will be considered (sorry, we cannot accept 3D works).

The exhibit will be on display from Wednesday, July 2 through Wednesday, July 30th. Deadline for submissions is Sunday, June 22. Accepted art must be delivered on July 1, between 12pm and 6pm, or beforehand by appointment. Art must be ready to hang via wire or sawtooth hook at the time of installation. $20 hanging fee, 100% of the sales go to the artists.

Submit photographs of entries in .jpg or .png format to Jay at: curation@philamoca.org. All submissions must be made to this email, in-person submissions will NOT be accepted.

An exhibition of artwork inspired by Mr. T at PhilaMOCA

About the Event: If you grew up in the 1980s, Mr. T was a ubiquitous presence in your childhood.  Whether you marveled at his driving skills and propensity to drink drugged milk on the A-Team, his menacing gaze as he stood toe-to-toe with Philly’s own Rocky Balboa, or peddled everything from lunchboxes to action figures to cereal with his face on it, Mr. T had an undeniable impact on our everyday lives.  On Saturday, December 7 we’re celebrating the Man with the Gold in a themed art show and entertainment experience!

Submissions:  All two-dimensional mediums welcome (no hazardous materials), no videos, sculptures or installations.  Please send digital files or photos of submissions to curator Ben Leach at curation@philamoca.org.  Links are preferred for six or more entries. Remember, not all submissions will be accepted.

There will be a $20 participation fee per selected piece of artwork. 100% of the proceeds from sold artwork will go to the artist.

Deadline for submissions is December 2nd, 2013.

This October, PhilaMOCA will be celebrating Halloween with dozens of horror-themed events. We invite artists to submit their scary, surreal, horrific, or off-putting art to cover our walls and help frighten our guests.

Submissions:
All two-dimensional mediums welcome (no hazardous materials), no videos, sculptures or installations. Please send digital files or photos of submissions to curator Jay Bilinsky at curation@philamoca.org. Links are preferred for six or more entries. Remember, not all submissions will be accepted.

There will be a $20 participation fee per selected piece of artwork. 100% of the proceeds from sold artwork will go to the artist.

CALL FOR ART ASAP!

drawingOur schedule is PACKED for September and we just realized that we don’t have any art on the walls!  Lend us a hand:  we’re looking to fill our bare walls with work from local artists, no theme, no hanging fee.  If you want it to be for sale then we’ll take a 15% commission, that’s all.  And let’s stick to objects that can hang on the wall, no video/sculptures/three dimensional objects this time around.

Deadline is Monday, September 2 at Noon.  Art drop offs will be made on Tuesday, September 3 between Noon and 7pm or by appointment before then, no art delivery via postal service.  Art will hang through October 1 and will be available for viewing during event hours.  E-mail images of submissions to ericbresler@philamoca.org.

CONTEST: Kiss of the Damned advance screening

PhilaMOCA’s new partnership with Cinedelphia.com is yielding rewards!  We’re currently giving away a whole bunch of tickets to attend an advance screening of Xan Cassavetes’ Kiss of the Damned that will be held on Monday, May 6 at 7:30 PM at the Ritz at the Bourse.  To enter, just RSVP and the lucky winners will receive confirmation e-mails.
This is just the first of what will surely be a long run of movie-related contest giveaways, which will help strengthen and solidify PhilaMOCA’s place as the premiere outlet for movie-related happenings in Philadelphia.  So support these contests to see great films and we’ll see where we go from there…

About the Event: PhilaMOCA is hosting a sequel to the critically-acclaimed 2012 ERASERHOOD FOREVER show – an artistic celebration of the work of David Lynch. This anniversary marks the passing of a full year since our ERASERHEAD mural was erected to commemorate the neighborhood that inspired the 1977 film.

The opening reception will be held on Friday, July 12 from 6:00 – 11:30 PM and will feature performers, musicians, amusements, and, of course, art in the style of the work of David Lynch.

Submissions: All mediums are welcome (no hazardous materials). Please send digital files or photos of submissions to curator Chip Schwartz at chip@philamoca.org. Links are preferred for six or more entries.

There will be a $25 participation fee per selected piece of artwork.
